INTERCULTURALISM I nterculturalism can be understood, always from the fact of the existence in the same territory of two or more cultures (where all but one is usually the result of immigration), as a political ideology whose main objective is to develop a common civic culture based in the values of democracy, freedom and human rights, which must be respected, as presupposed by "Western civilization", while promoting interaction between the various communities living in the same country. Interculturalism promotes individual rights for all, without discrimination. This means, in particular, that people have the right to maintain their filiation with a specific ethnic group and the right to cultural and religious differences, which can be freely displayed in public.
